Parenting and Neurobehavioral Outcomes in Children Born Moderate-to-Late Preterm and at Term

Abstract

Objectives To compare the parenting environment and the relationships between parenting behaviors and concurrent child neurobehavioral outcomes at 2 years of corrected age between children born moderate-to-late preterm (MLP; 32-36 weeks of gestation) and at term (≥37 weeks of gestation). Study design Participants were 129 children born MLP and 110 children born at term and their mothers. Mothers’ parenting behaviors (sensitivity, structuring, nonintrusiveness, nonhostility) were assessed at 2 years of corrected age using the Emotional Availability Scales.
